Secondary GT Services (7th - 12th)

  • Middle School / High School Services (Grades 7-12)

As we move to support the whole child through GT services, we are developing new services and supports that support our students beyond the classroom.

    Academic Supports and Services
Gifted & Talented students in Grades 7-12 continue to receive services through differentiated instruction in Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses offered at their campuses. All GT middle school and high school students are encouraged to enroll in AP and Honors courses each year. The AP Program allows students to participate in college-level courses and potentially earn college credit while still attending high school. The Honors Program serves as a preparatory program designed to provide students with the necessary skills to be successful in Dual Credit and AP courses.

GT Advanced core content courses are available for Gifted & Talented identified students in Grades 7 & 8. This expanded level of service in the middle grades supports students' need for academic rigor and emotional and social considerations through the homogenous grouping of Gifted & Talented identified learners. Gifted & Talented students receiving services in Grade 6 are assessed with a nationally-standardized achievement test to provide information on academic strengths and aid in making course decisions for services in Grades 7 & 8.

All Honors and AP teachers attend professional development in their specified content areas, in addition to the academic, social, and emotional needs of Gifted & Talented students and the identification and assessment of gifted students. These teachers also receive additional training in best practices and differentiation strategies for delivering instruction to gifted learners.

All Keller ISD High Schools offer College Board authorized Advanced Placement (AP) courses (Course sections vary by campus.)

Academic Acceleration through a Credit by Exam is a way for students to adjust their coursework based on their individual needs.

Advanced Enrichment and Social-Emotional Supports and Services

GT students in 7th - 12th grade will receive support and advanced enrichment through a Secondary GT Facilitator. Students will be invited to join other GT students in a variety of advanced enrichment opportunities, such as competitions, and social-emotional and executive function support and lessons through a digital learning platform. As we evolve into safer times, these groups will begin to transition to both digital and in-person groups.

GT identified students in 7th and 8th grades participate in the GT service that occurs during their advisory time in their schedule. In this service, 7th and 8th-grade GT students will delve into the GT curriculum 2 days of the week.

Please reach out to the campus GT Specialist or Liasion if you have any questions!
