Three KISD Athletes Qualify for State Track & Field Meet

Keller ISD has three student-athletes from three different high schools headed to the UIL Class 6A State Track and Field Championships after their performances at the Region 1-6A Meet on April 19-20.

Fossil Ridge High senior NyKaela Mays earned her spot at State as Regional Champion in the girls high jump. The Panthers stand-out cleared 5-feet, 8-inches to win the gold at Regionals.

Meanwhile, Central High senior Melissa Tagorda punched her ticket to State by finishing as runner-up in the girls pole vault. Tagorda's top vault of 11-6 earned her the silver medal and a chance to represent the Chargers in Austin.

Timber Creek High sophomore LaShonda Reeves is also headed to State in the 400-meter run. The Falcon finished third at Regionals, but her time of 55.75 seconds was the fastest among all the other Regional third-place finishers, earning her the wild card position at the State Meet.

The Class 6A Championship Meet is set for May 4 at the Mike Myers Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

In all, Keller ISD sent 27 athletes to the Region 1-6A Meet, with several others placing and earning points for their teams:
