    TMS LADY HAWKS ATHLETICS EXPECTATIONS

     

    **Athletics is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare them for the sports they will play in high school and beyond; as well as, equip them with good physical health habits as they grow. 

     

    **Some activities will be centered on individual and team sports.  Other activities will focus on developing cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. 

     

    **Students will learn to work in groups to accomplish goals in both cooperative and competitive settings.  They will begin to find lifelong fitness activities that fit their individual needs, in turn being able to utilize the skills they learn to be successful not only in sports, but in leading healthy lifestyles.

     

     

     

    ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS:

     

    pass all classes with a 70% average or above

    Follow the KISD Code of Conduct

    Exhibit good citizenship, sportsmanship and teamwork

    Give 100 percent effort, 100 percent of the time

     

     

    CLASS RULES:

     Be on time for class, PROPERLY dressed out and prepared to PROPERLY participate. (We will dress out everyday.)

    Students are expected to wear the official TMS Athletics Uniform -with socks and tied athletic sneakers/shoes every day. Crocs and house slippers are NOT permitted. 

     RESPECT yourself and others, as well as the Facilities, Equipment and Property of all people associated with Timberview Middle School. 

     NO Food or Drink in class, EXCEPT for water bottles.

     Cell phones and similar electronic devices are to be used ONLY when the course instructor specifically allows them for class research purposes.

     For misuse of the phone (social media, games, text etc.) security will be called to confiscate the device.   Additionally, violators will lose points for improper participation.

     There will be Zero Tolerance regarding cell phones/cameras in the Locker Rooms. Any device seen within the locker room will result in an immediate administrative referral.

     Horseplay & Bullying will not be tolerated, and will result in a ZERO (0) participation grade. 

     

     

    PREPAREDNESS AND PARTICIPATION:

    All students enrolled in this course are expected to dress out and participate in all daily activities with SUFFICIENT EFFORT. 

    Students are expected to demonstrate exemplary Sportsmanship and fully cooperate with coaches. 

    Non-compliant students will lose participation points for the day. 

     

     

    NON-NEGOTIABLE DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS:

     

    All athletes are required to dress out in athletic gear daily.

    Tank tops, Soffes, spandex, cut-offs & short shorts are NOT permitted.

    A required uniform is available for purchase through our 3rd party vendor.

    Athletic shoes are required.

    Students are not permitted to participate in inappropriate footwear, and it will result in a ZERO (0) for the day.

    Hair must be pulled back (out of face)

    NO Jewelry (rings, watches, earrings, anklets, bracelets, etc.) due to safety.

    ABSOLUTELY No gum is allowed in the gym!





    EXCUSED FROM PARTICIPATION:

     

    A parent's note from home will excuse students from “vigorous” activity, but students will still be required to dress out.

    A parent's note from home only lasts for a maximum of three days, after which, a doctor's note is required.

     

    A doctor’s note is required to be totally excused from the physical component of the course. 

    In such cases, written assignments are given to compensate for the lack of activity.

    It is also expected that any special physical conditions be made known to the instructor IMMEDIATELY, and the condition should be properly noted on the student’s permanent record.

     

    A doctor's note should outline all the restrictions and you must have a release note to resume physical activity.

     

     

     

    GRADES:

     

    Grades will be based on 50% participation and 50% dressing out.

     Participation includes: Proper athletics gear, class discussion, physical activities as well as following all class/school rules. There may be several additional assessments per 9-Week period including tests, quizzes, group & individual projects, presentations etc.

    A student may earn a total of 20 points daily (example: 10 points for total participation and 10 for dressing out). 

    A weekly participation/dressing out grade will be given to each student.

    Each time a student fails to participate fully or dress out using the above requirements, they will lose points from their weekly grade.  They will have an alternative activity, and will not regain points for that day.

    One letter-grade deductions include (but are not limited to): - Improper shirt, poor sportsmanship (minor), inappropriate language, incomplete participation (minor) etc. Two & three letter-grade deductions include (but are not limited to): - Poor sportsmanship (major), bullying, improper use of equipment, incomplete participation (major), repeat offenses 



    LOCKERS:

     

    Students will be issued a locker.

    The coaches are not responsible for lost, missing, or stolen items. 

    It is the student’s responsibility to lock up personal items in their assigned locker.

    Reminders are given to those who leave their belongings unsecured.



    INHALERS:

     

    Doctor’s approval required

    Obtain proper form from school nurse to have in possession during athletics

    Otherwise it remains in the nurses’ office.

    PLEASE pre-treat before you come to athletics class.



    NUTRITION AND HYDRATION:

     

    Eat a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily

    Consume proper snacks

    Hydrate and drink plenty of water throughout the day

    Bringing a water bottle to class each day is highly recommended

     

    SCHOOL CONDUCT/DISCIPLINARY ACTION:

    We are optimistic that our athletes will exhibit superior character traits and strong leadership abilities.  

    If an athlete happens to face disciplinary action, there are consequences given on a case by case basis, including but not limited to additional workout sessions or writing assignments.

    If a student has 2 or more days of ISS/OSS in a week, they are not allowed to practice those days or play the game that week.
    If the ISS/OSS dates fall over the weekend, then the week with the majority of days will be the one the student can not practice/play in (ex: ISS Friday 9/29, Monday 10/2, Tuesday 10/3 = no practice/play the week of 10/2).
