Pre-K
Keller ISD’s high-quality, state-aligned pre-kindergarten program takes advantage of the critical early years, when 90% of a child’s brain develops, to provide developmentally appropriate instruction that builds solid academic and social foundations so children start strong in kindergarten with confidence, curiosity, and a readiness to succeed.

Enrollment in the pre-k program is restricted to students residing within Keller ISD boundaries, with the exception of children of Keller ISD employees. Please be aware that all pre-k student placements will be at their home campus unless a student qualifies for bilingual or special education services. The only other exception might be if the designated home campus is full at the time of enrollment.
Why Pre-K?

Taught by certified educators, and supported by specialized services such as special education and dual language, pre-k prepares children for kindergarten and beyond, with research showing that students who attend pre-k are more likely to graduate from high school.
Young children learn through play, music, movement, and hands-on activities. High priorities are learning about the alphabet, expanding vocabulary, developing awareness of language sounds (phonological awareness) and the building of social/emotional skills.
The pre-kindergarten curriculum is based on the Texas Education Agency's Pre-Kindergarten guidelines. Areas included are:
- Social and Emotional Development
- Language and Communication
- Early Literacy
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
- Fine Arts
- Physical Development
- Technology
What to Expect?
A typical day in a pre-kindergarten classroom includes time in a large group setting, participating in read-alouds, songs, and rhymes. During the day, there is also time for small group instruction where the teacher reinforces important skills specific to the needs of each child.
Students also have time to choose their activities at learning centers during Discovery Learning. These may include blocks, dramatic play, computers, library, and writing centers.
In pre-kindergarten, children also have outdoor time and participate in weekly rotations of physical education, library, and music.

What Keller ISD Offers
Pre-kindergarten is a special program for eligible four-year-old students, designed to meet the needs of a child's early years, which represent a period of rapid growth. It is during this period that key concepts are developed which directly correlate to a student's future academic success.
Keller ISD's pre-kindergarten program includes:
- Free full-day pre-kindergarten for those who meet state eligibility criteria
- Tuition-based pre-kindergarten on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who do not qualify for the free program
