Trustee Ruthie Keyes, Place 7
Ruthie Keyes is currently in the third year of her fourth term on the KISD Board of Trustees. She first took office in June 2012.
Ruthie and her husband, Bob, both retired from teaching in May 2011. She taught two years at Whitley Road Elementary and her last nine years were spent at Heritage Elementary. All eleven years in Keller, Bob was at Indian Spring Middle School. Ruthie also taught at Hawley ISD, Sands CISD, and Borger ISD. She worked as an aide Amarillo ISD and was a permanent sub for the gifted and talented class in Cisco ISD. It was in Cisco where she decided that she would go back to school to get her teaching degree because she felt like she had something to offer kids.
Mrs. Keyes received her bachelor's degree in elementary education with a specialization in art from Abilene Christian University. Her master's degree is in conflict resolution also from Abilene Christian. She is a mediator and is certified to facilitate IEPs.
She mentored many student teachers and team members. She was voted campus teacher of the year in Keller, Hawley, and placed on the career ladder in Borger. Association of Texas Professional Educators awarded her with the Christa McAuliffe Grant for Teaching Excellence for 1998-99. She has served on CEIC and DEIC committees as well as curriculum writing, book adoption committees, and PTA boards.
Ruthie and Bob have one daughter, Katie, who teaches AP Chemistry.
Mrs. Keyes' current term on the Board will expire in May 2024.
