TCHS Senior Serves as Bank of America Student Leader This Summer
Cailey Li, a senior at Timber Creek High School, was selected as one of just five Dallas/Fort Worth area students to be a 2021 Bank of America Student Leader throughout the summer.
More than 300 students are selected nationwide, the process is competitive, and Bank of America Account Supervisor Jamie Bennett said Cailey Li was among the best and brightest DFW has to offer. Throughout the summer, the student leaders built critical skills and networked with like-minded peers at local non-profits.
"We’re excited to see how they contribute to the community now and in the future," Bennett said.
Since 2004, the Student Leader program has helped young people gain work experience, broaden their perspective on how non-profits serve community needs, and advance their civic engagement. Student Leaders from across the country also develop better money habits by working with bank volunteers to increase their financial management skills, from building a budget to creating a savings plan.
Li's long-term goal is to study pharmacology at Rice University because of its variety of undergraduate opportunities.
"An unquestionable truth in this world is that pandemics will come and go as the human population continues to grow," Li said. "The pandemic really sparked my interest in public health and STEM social entrepreneurship, which is a field that has actually been experiencing a lot of growth since the pandemic began. I want to really get involved in projects like Dell Medical School's Factor Health, which aims to provide nutrition to single-parent families in need of it. I believe that with our society's incoming climate changes, pandemics, technological innovations, and mounting public health issues, those who are not as prepared for these changes will need more help than ever in the face of this continuous, growing socio-economic gap in different social classes.
"This is why I was excited to be working with Bank of America! They have listened to my interests, and offered great nonprofit opportunities to connect with local organization leaders, medical liaisons, and social entrepreneurs that really understand what I want to experience and accomplish when it comes to my long term nonprofit, social interests and my summer goal of effectively contributing to the community. Bank of America has been nothing but welcoming, friendly, and willing to do whatever they can in order to assist me in furthering my goals."
