Keller High's Sasha Crawford Wins State in 800M

Keller High School senior Sasha Crawford finished first in the Girls 800-Meter Run at the Saturday, May 13, UIL Class 6A State Track and Field Championships, bringing home a State Championship for her school.

Keller ISD sent six student-athletes to the State Championship Meet – three each from KHS and Timber Creek High. Crawford's performance was the highlight of the weekend, and she finished with a time of 2:08.55, more than a second in front of runner-up Caila Lyons from Northside Brennan (2:09.82).

Keller High's Jacqueline Rose came close to bringing home a second State Title for the Indians, as she finished second in the Girls Pole Vault. Rose cleared 13 feet, 3 inches on her second try, but fell short of clearing 13-6, the winning height set by Coppell's Skyler Schuller.

Tre Griffiths also had a strong showing for KHS, finishing fourth in the Boys Triple Jump. He posted a distance of 47 feet, 10.25 inches. Round Rock's Xavier Drumgoole took first in the competition with a leap of 49-6.75.

In the Boys 200-Meter Dash, Timber Creek's Renaud Francois finished in fifth place with a time of 21.75, just a little more than a second behind State Champion Jelani Watkins of Klein Forest (20.54). Meanwhile, in the Boys High Jump, the Falcons' LeVar Thonrton finished seventh with a jump of 6-4.

On the girls' side, Timber Creek's Mikayla Watson finished 8th in the competitive 100-Meter Hurdles. Watson crossed in 14.74, just three-tenths of a second off of her school-record time at Regionals. Cypress Ridge's Rylee Hampton won the event in a time of 13.64.

Congratulations to Sasha Crawford on collecting a State Championship for Keller High, and to all of Keller ISD's state qualifiers on exceptional performances at the State Meet!
