Two Timber Creek HS Wrestlers Win State

A pair of Timber Creek High School wrestlers won State Championships at the 2023 UIL Class 6A Tournament on Saturday, February 18, while two other Keller ISD wrestlers finished second in their divisions.

Timber Creek sophomore Titus Howell took first place in the Boys 106-Pound Division, and Falcons senior Riah Ostrander won the 285 bracket, earning TCHS Wrestling its first State Championships in school history.

Howell fought through a challenging 106 Division bracket to advance to the Championship Match. There, he went up against Katy Cinco Ranch senior Richie Walsh, Region 3-6A Runner-Up, and Howell came away with the win by a 5-2 decision.

Ostrander met up with Region 3-6A Champion Rodney Trotter, a senior from Katy High, in the 285 Championship, with Ostrander prevailing by a 4-2 decision.

Keller High sophomore Andrew Juracek followed up his Region 1-6A Championship at 215 with an impressive showing at State, advancing to the Championship Match. There, he met Region 2-6A Champion Ryan Nichols, a senior from Allen High, and the two battled to a 3-2 decision in favor of Nichols, earning Juracek a silver medal.

On the girls side of the tournament, Central High senior Faith Macharia entered competition as Region 1-6A Champion in the 185 Division, and also made her way to the Championship Match. Macharia ran into Klein Oak sophomore Rylee Ferranti, Champion of Region 2-6A, and Ferranti came away with a 5-2 decision.

With 13 overall individual qualifiers, coming away with two gold and two silver medals, it was an amazingly successful weekend at the Berry Center in Cypress for Keller ISD wresting teams. Congratulations to all of this year's State Qualifiers, and to all of Keller ISD wrestlers on another incredible season!
