PHIS Clubs 2019-2020
5th Grade Choir -- Mrs. Erler -- Meets Mondays from 3-4
6th Grade Show Choir – Mrs. Erler – Meets Thursdays from 3-4
Ambassadors Ms. Yancy and Mrs. Brizendine--1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 3:00-3:45. Students must be accepted and parents will be notified of acceptance.
Animenia – Ms. Hieger – We meet the first Monday of the month after school beginning October 7th, in room 142.
Art Club – Mrs. Nebeker – We will begin art club September 17th. We will alternate 5th and 6th grade art club on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:00. There is a first semester and second semester group. Ask Mrs. Nebeker to see which group your student is in. You can still apply, but there is a wait list for both 5th and 6th grade. 6th graders can make ceiling tiles during art club, but their design must make it through the proposal and approval process. Athletic Club – Coach Spivey/Coach Brown – 6th grade pre-athletics….We will focus on various aspects of fitness/sports throughout the year, so weekly participation is not required. Students can participate in activities that interest them on a weekly basis. We will meet each Wednesday, beginning October 16th, from 3:00-4:00. Coaches from Central and Hillwood will join us for some of the sports.
Band- Mrs. Maus/Mr. Woolhouse/ Ms. Castellani- 6th grade Students learn the basics of how to play their instrument! 6th Grade band class meets by instrument and helps prepare students for Band at Hillwood MS.Students invited after school 3-3:30pm daily.
Battle of the Books – Ms. Carr – before school 7:15-7:35, every Monday. We read as many of the designated 10 books as we can, form teams and battle each other about the details of the book. The two winning teams from our campus are determined in November. They continue to practice then go to battle other intermediate schools for the title of district champion on Feb. 3rd.
Book Club – Ms. Carr – last Monday of the month, 3:00-3:45. The library provides a different book each month for the members to read. We talk about the book, watch trailers for new books and just have a lot of fun!
Chess Club – Ms. Connors/Mrs. Manley – Meets the second Tuesday of the month in the library after school from 3-4 beginning September 10th.
Cooking Club - Mrs. Baldwin. 3-4:15 We meet in the Teacher's lounge. Cooking Club A will meet October 1, November 5, December 3, January 14, February 4 and March 17. Cooking Club B will meet October 15, November 12, December 10, January 7, February 11 and March 24 Cooking club members were picked at random via a lottery. Cooking Club is currently full.
House Council - Mrs. Goff/Mrs. Tankersley/Mrs. LeBaron/Mrs. Baker - Meets every other Wednesday, after school from 3:00-3:45, with HMS once a month Wed mornings 7:15-7:45. Currently House Council is not accepting new members.
JAC - Mrs. Mendoza--JAC (Junior Assistant Counselors) meets on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:15, unless otherwise noted on the Calendar found on the JAC website. JAC students will be responsible for different areas of service throughout the week. All parents and students need sign up for Remind, however the main communication is noted on the Calendar. Jac is a closed group and not offered to everyone, it is by application/acceptance only and is currently not accepting new members.
Lego Club – Mr. Forward, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. McCartney, Mrs. Keys – Join us as we explore the wonderful universe of Legos. Students come to build, but end up making new friends at the same time! Students are free to bring their own Legos, but we do advise them to not mix them up with the ones provided by the school. In addition, we are not responsible if they get lost, stolen, or broken. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of the month from 3:00-3:50 in room 209, beginning on September 24th. Must be picked up no later than 4:00.
Library Aides – Ms. Carr – Two students from each class are selected by their teacher to be the Library Aides. During their class visit to the library they check in and out books and help other students. During their Go Time they come back to the library to shelve books. They each receive a free wristband. They occasionally meet after school for trainings and parties. Trainings occur every six weeks on Fridays.
Pokémon Club – Mrs. Baker/Mrs. Cardona/Mrs. Reynolds/Mrs. Lord – Meets the third Wednesday of the month in the cafeteria immediately after school until 3:45. We meet to socialize, trade cards, battle, and talk Pokémon. We also have games and crafts available. A card collection is not required for membership, just come for the fun!
Rubik’s Cube Club --Miss Scroggins/Mrs. Toler-- meets in Scroggins room every Friday from 3:00-3:45 to practice or learn to solve Rubik's cubes. In the Fall we will work on Mosaic design contests and in the Spring we will work on Speed Competition.
Vet Club – Mrs. Matthiesen – The focus of this club is to allow students to learn more about the field of veterinary medicine with students who share a love of animals. We will learn about responsible pet ownership, the path a student will take to get to vet school, how vets complete physical exams and diagnostics, and so much more! This club meets the first Monday of the month from 3:00-3:45 in room 216, beginning October 7th. Membership is currently closed.
Wizard Wednesdays – Mrs. Cardona, Mrs. Hoelscher, – We meet the first Wednesday of the month after school from 3:00-3:45 location TBD, beginning September 30th.
