School Meals Not Impacted by Federal Shutdown

With the federal government shutdown, we understand that some families have had concerns about the continuity of school meal funding. The Texas Department of Agriculture, which oversees school meal funding in Texas, recently released a statement confirming that the state has the funds to continue providing free and reduced-price school meals for students who qualify:

"The Texas Department of Agriculture has instituted safeguards to ensure that Texas school meals will keep being served and that meal reimbursements will continue to be paid to our school districts on schedule. Texas schools will keep serving healthy breakfasts and lunches and our students will keep getting the nutrition they need to learn and grow."

If your family has been impacted by the federal shutdown and you feel that you might qualify for free or reduced school meals, applications are accepted throughout the school year. Applications can be completed online at www.SchoolCafe.com/KellerISD. Paper copies area also available at each campus or at the KISD Child Nutrition Offices located at 11300 Alta Vista Road.
