Central HS Senior Inducted into Superstars Scholarship Program
Central High School senior Jonah Gonda was inducted as a Superstar into the Night of Superstars scholarship program on Saturday, Nov. 2, qualifying him to apply for a scholarship toward college, a trade school, or a life-skills training program.
The Superstar event celebrates the abilities and tenacity of remarkable students and young adults with special needs. Superstars are nominated with only five selected to participate and receive up to $2,500. He was nominated by CHS teacher Mendi Cochrane.
“Jonah was a perfect candidate to be nominated for this recognition as he excels in academics, leadership, and athletics,” Cochrane said. “Jonah's unwavering dedication, relentless perseverance, and unbreakable spirit make Jonah not just deserving of this award, but an inspiration to all who witness his journey.”
Living with autism and a speech impairment, Gonda has demonstrated strength and tenacity with several accomplishments such as making the Central High School swim team this year and serving as the Homecoming Co-Chair of the Unified Champions Council at Central High School. As Co-Chair, he is a pivotal advocate for inclusion and unity, working tirelessly to create a supportive and empowering environment for all students.
Additionally, Gonda is a dedicated Special Olympics athlete who brought home two silver medals at the State Track and Field Meet this past May.
He is the third Keller ISD student to be inducted as a Superstar.
“The Special Education Department is thrilled to celebrate Jonah, one of our outstanding Central High School students,” said Lynn Jameson, KISD Executive Director of Special Education. “The prestigious recognition at the 2024 Night of Superstars highlights Jonah’s remarkable resilience and determination and his inspiring role as a student leader in our school community. He is clearly an inspiration to others around him, and we are proud to have him represent Keller ISD!”
