KISD Board Calls Bond Election, Putting Proposal Before Voters

After a months-long committee process, Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees has called an $828 million bond election for November 3, 2026. Items on the ballot address aging facilities, safety and security, and a variety of facilities related to student programs – all within the existing property tax rate.  

This marks Keller ISD’s first bond proposal since 2019. A Citizens Bond Advisory Committee of more than 65 individuals evaluated current facilities, explored district finances and developed projects based on the information studied. They met from January to June to evaluate projects and tour district facilities before making a recommendation to the school board in July. 

“I’m grateful for the many hours that our community members spent in developing this proposal,” Superintendent Dr. Cory Wilson said. “Our district is currently addressing many of these proposed projects using operational funds – the same funds that are used for things such as teacher salaries and student programs. This bond offers a strategic approach as we look to the future. Now, our responsibility is to engage with the community with clear, factual information about each proposition as the November election approaches.” 

Keller ISD Bond 2026 will appear on the ballot as five propositions, none of which require the district to increase the property tax rate. 

Prop A: Maintenance Repairs & Renovations Involving 34 Campuses/Facilities
Currently, Keller ISD spends millions from its operational budget to address aging building systems. Prop A includes roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, code compliance, and safety systems. The measure also proposes a partial rebuild of Keller Middle School (preserving newly constructed portions from the 2019 Bond).

Prop B: Technology for Students & Staff
Keller ISD spends $6 million from its operating budget each year to refresh student and staff devices. Prop B includes purchasing those devices using bond funds.

Prop C: Natatorium System Repairs
The Keller ISD Natatorium is currently closed for student/community use. Prop C includes repairs to water filtration systems, dehumidifiers and HVAC operations, all of which can allow the facility to resume operations.

Prop D: Keller ISD Athletic Complex Site Repairs & Keller High School Field House Renovation
The KISD Athletic Complex serves as the competition venue for all KISD high schools. Site repairs in Prop D include lighting, track and turf replacement and restroom renovations. The adjacent Keller High School Field House is also proposed for renovations in Prop D. This project also addresses mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues at these facilities.

Prop E: District-Wide Turf Projects
Keller ISD is one of the few districts in Northeast Tarrant County with grass competition fields at the middle school level and with grass high school baseball and softball fields. Three of KISD’s middle school fields cannot be used for competitions during the 2026-27 school year. Prop E includes installation of artificial turf at all KISD middle schools as well as high school baseball and softball fields.

Currently, the district addresses these facility and infrastructure issues using operational funds. Funding these projects through a bond allows KISD to address aging infrastructure while dedicating more of its operational budget toward funding teacher salaries, daily operating expenses, and student programs. Bond funds are not subject to recapture by the state, which means 100% of every bond dollar stays in Keller ISD and can be used for the projects above.
