Board Approves Plan to Consolidate Schools for 2027-28

Board Approves Plan to Consolidate Schools for 2027-28

Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees voted 6-0 on Thursday evening at the monthly board meeting to approve the school consolidation plan shared with the community last week, positioning the district to better serve students for years to come.

Beginning in the 2027-28 school year, the plan will align campus grade configurations across the district with elementary schools serving PK-5, middle schools serving grades 6-8, and high schools serving grades 9-12. As part of the transition, the district’s three remaining intermediate schools — Bear Creek Intermediate, Parkwood Hill Intermediate, and Trinity Meadows Intermediate — will close following the 2026-27 school year.

Additional boundary adjustments will also be necessary to address campus utilization needs, with specific changes to be finalized in the coming months.

The plan was developed by the district’s administration with input from a 120-member joint committee made up of participants from the Long-Range Planning Committee and Citizens Bond Advisory Committee.

District officials estimate the consolidation plan will save approximately $3 million annually in operating costs while avoiding an additional $39 million in otherwise necessary capital improvement expenses at the closing schools.

School consolidation is one part of Keller ISD’s broader strategy to address ongoing financial challenges tied to Texas’ public school funding environment. The district is pursuing the sale of excess property to strengthen its fund balance and planning to open transfer opportunities for neighboring communities outside of the district’s boundaries at lower-utilized campuses. KISD’s Citizens Bond Advisory Committee is also exploring a potential bond package to address capital needs, freeing up additional operational funding to support student programs and employee compensation.

Additional information will be shared as details are finalized in the coming weeks and months. Visit www.KellerISD.net/Consolidation for the latest updates.
