"I moved to Keller in 1998 during my fourth-grade year and had an incredible teacher who was deeply rooted in her Mexican American culture. Her presence and authenticity left a lasting impact on me and showed me how powerful representation can be. As I grew up in Keller, I realized I never had a Black teacher, and that absence stayed with me. I became an educator because I wanted to be that presence for students who share my background, while also providing all students the opportunity to learn from someone with different lived experiences."
