Keller ISD continues to pay close attention to activity in Austin and how it may impact the District and Texas public schools.
The Texas Constitution states that “a general diffusion of knowledge being essential to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools.”
KISD's Board of Trustees has approved a slate of legislative priorities for the 89th Legislature that were compiled by a committee of parents and employees:
Adequate Funding
- Increase the Basic Allotment
- Increase Teacher Compensation
- Fund Schools Based on Enrollment
- Fund State Mandates to Reflect Actual Costs
- Provide Transparency and Accountability for Recapture Funds
