Meeting Previews
Prior to each Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees President and Superintendent will preview with the community what can be expected from the agenda.
Below is the preview for the most recent meeting:
Preview: Thursday, November 21
The Keller ISD Board of Trustees will hold its next Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, November 21, at the Keller ISD Education Center. Among the important topics to be discussed is a proposal for a one-time $300 payment to all full-time employees this December.
In May, the Board passed a resolution highlighting the vital role our educators and staff play in the success of our students and families. That resolution came with a commitment to exploring additional compensation opportunities. If approved, this one-time payment – made possible through careful budget planning and efficient resource management – reflects the unwavering commitment of the Board and Central Administration to support our incredible educators and staff.
Other key items on the agenda include the election of members to the Board of Directors for the Tarrant Appraisal District and a preview of the 2025-26 Instructional Calendar. Additionally, we will hear from our community partners, the Community Storehouse, to highlight and appreciate their contributions to Keller ISD and our families.
We are looking forward to beginning the meeting by celebrating student and staff achievements, including Lone Star Elementary’s Unified Champion School national banner recognition, high school cross country state accomplishments, an Indian Springs Middle School student who was named a finalist in a national STEM competition, and our monthly Keller ISD employee awards.
If you are unable to attend in person, we invite you to click here to view the full agenda and click here to watch live streaming video of tonight’s meeting.
Thank you for your continued support as we prioritize the excellence of our students, educators, and staff while working together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, October 24
The Keller ISD Board of Trustees will hold its next Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, October 24, at the Keller ISD Education Center.
A key item on the agenda is the renewal of Keller ISD’s agreement with the City of Fort Worth for school resource officers (SROs). This agreement, which ensures 12 SROs will continue to protect our schools within the city, is a 50-50 cost share between the District and Fort Worth. Combined with SROs from Keller, Colleyville, and Southlake police departments, our own security personnel, and recent campus officer hires, these efforts are essential to maintaining a safe learning environment for students and staff.
During the meeting’s Community Spotlight, we will highlight the contributions of our community partners, including the Keller Council of PTAs, a campus beautification project by 121 Community Church, and a collaboration with the Texas Department of Wildlife to enhance environmental learning at Fossil Ridge High School’s Panther Pond.
As always, we will take a moment to recognize exceptional academic achievements and the dedicated KISD staff who help make our schools safe, thriving spaces for learning.

Preview: Thursday, September 26
The Board of Trustees will hold its next Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, September 26, at the Keller ISD Education Center, as Trustees consider a number of important action items related to the District’s finances.
The Board will consider a tax rate of $1.0852 per $100 of property valuation, which is lower than last year’s rate of $1.0875. The proposed rate includes a maintenance and operations (M&O) rate of $0.7552, which represents a 0.23-cent decrease from last year, and an interest and sinking (I&S) rate of $0.330, which remains unchanged to allow the District to continue to pay down debt.
Trustees will consider approval of a resolution directing the defeasance and/or redemption of a portion of the District’s tax refunding bonds, which could result in potential debt service savings of more than $3.3 million. KISD has saved more than $35 million over the past six years through debt refunding.
The Board and KISD administrators have been working with the City of Keller over the past several months to restructure the interlocal agreement between the city and school district regarding school resource officers (SRO). Trustees will consider a new agreement that maintains the current SRO coverage at schools within the City of Keller, codifies the campus patrol program, and reduces costs. The proposed agreement of $350,564 represents a 12.5% decrease for SRO personnel reimbursement costs and a 10.67% decrease for equipment reimbursement compared to last year’s contract. These adjustments were made to get closer to a 50/50 cost split for our SRO contract with Keller.
In addition to Thursday’s action items, we’re excited to celebrate several staff recognitions and student academic achievement through College Board, and we'll get to hear from two incredible community partners – Clayton Youth Enrichment and Keller Lions Club.
We invite you to view the full agenda by clicking this link, and those unable to attend in person can view the meeting live on Keller ISD’s YouTube channel. Thank you for your continued engagement in the work of the Board and for investing your time in caring for our students and the future of Keller ISD.
Preview: Thursday, August 22
We hope that everyone has had a great start to the school year. We wanted to remind you that the next Regular Meeting of the KISD Board of Trustees is at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, August 22, at the Keller ISD Education Center, as the Board will consider the approval of the policies we shared about at last month’s meeting.
By now, we’re sure everyone is familiar with Keller ISD’s move to a phone-free learning environment. District administrators have already implemented the rules for prohibiting the use of cell phones and other personal communication devices during the school day; however, the changes to Policy FNCE (Local) would codify the plan into District policy, providing additional support for teachers and staff in enforcing those rules.
The Board will consider policies focused on codifying the fundamental rights of parents to make decisions concerning the upbringing, education, and care of their children. Parents matter, and these policies will ensure they have a seat at the table when it comes to their child's education.
There are also two action items on the agenda related to 4-H – an adjunct faculty agreement and a resolution approving the organization’s extracurricular status. Both items will ensure that Keller ISD students who participate in off-campus activities with 4-H can be considered “in attendance” for Keller ISD attendance accounting purposes.
The Board will hear a report from Keller ISD Human Resources about employee healthcare options for the 2025 enrollment year. The District is considering three different options, each of which balances different levels of premium increases with potential changes in service. Employees have had opportunities to learn more about these options and provide their feedback over the past several weeks.
We’re also excited to hear from representatives of the All Pro Dad Program during our new Community Spotlight portion of the agenda. We know that the program has had success involving positive male role models in volunteer capacities at several of our schools, and we look forward to learning more about how the organization is growing in KISD.
You can click here for tonight’s full agenda and visit Keller ISD’s YouTube channel to watch a live stream of the meeting.
Thank you for your support of Keller ISD and the work of the Board of Trustees as we continue to work together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, July 25
The KISD Board of Trustees’ next Regular Meeting is at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, July 25, at the Keller ISD Education Center, and the Board has a full agenda as we prepare for the upcoming school year.
The Board will preview several polices, including a “parental rights policy” that empowers parents and codifies their role as the main decision makers not only in their children’s education but in decisions that influence their upbringing, moral values, and care.
The Board will also preview a “cell phone policy” focused on protecting our students, securing the learning environment, and improving educational outcomes. The data is clear that cell phones and social media are addictive, contribute to mental health issues, and are a disruption to the learning environment. This policy will help address these issues by re-establishing a healthy, safe, and positive learning environment.
District administrators will be delivering several important reports at tonight’s meeting. Our Human Resources team will provide a staffing update as they work to wrap up hiring ahead of the new school year, along with a preview of proposed employee health insurance options.
We’ll also hear from KISD’s Safety and Security Department on what changes schools can expect as we continue to explore ways to ensure secure learning and working environments for our students and staff.
Items for action on this evening’s agenda include consideration of employment recommendations, including those for a new principal at Woodland Springs Elementary School, Heritage Elementary, and a new Keller ISD Director of Health Services.
The Board will also consider the approval of the 2024-25 Student Code of Conduct, which has undergone some format changes from previous years to provide students and families with greater clarity.
Additionally, the Board plans to appoint a Trustee to fill the vacant Place 3 position on the Board. The vacancy happened after the filing deadline, which means it occurred too late in the last election cycle to have been included on the May 2024 ballot. The vacancy must be filled before the end of August.
The Board invited the community to apply for the position from June 20-30. Five applications were submitted within the application window, and those applicants were invited to an open, in-person interview on Wednesday evening, at which two of the individuals were able to attend. We appreciate all five individuals for expressing their interest in serving on the Board, and we are excited to be able to again fill out our Team of Eight as the school year gets underway.
You can click here to view the full agenda for this evening’s meeting, and as a reminder, anyone unable to attend in person can always view the meeting live on Keller ISD’s YouTube channel. Thank you for staying engaged in this important work as we work together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, June 20
While school has been out for nearly a month now, Keller ISD administrators, staff, and the Board of Trustees have continued the work of preparing for the 2024-25 school year. The Board’s next monthly Regular Meeting will be held at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, June 20, at the Keller ISD Education Center.
One of our top priorities for this evening’s meeting is approving the annual budget for the upcoming 2024-25 fiscal year. The budget that will be presented to the Board is the culmination of more than a year of work, as extensive efforts have been made by District leaders to present a balanced budget in the midst of the state’s public school funding crisis.
As we enter our fifth straight budget adoption without state leadership increasing the basic per-student funding allotment, despite 17% inflation over that time and an unprecedented state budget surplus, Keller ISD’s leadership has had to make many challenging decisions to help prevent the District from dipping into an already strapped fund balance. The budget set to be presented this evening will ensure that the District stays financially stable in future years and avoids cutting any student programs.
Trustees are also set to consider approving employment recommendations for the outstanding principal vacancies in KISD, Trustee assignments to committees and campuses, the 2024-25 School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) membership, and policies recommended by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) as a result of the 2023 legislative session.
The Board will also consider an important resolution regarding proposed federal changes to Title IX. Title IX is a federal law prohibiting federally funded education programs or activities from excluding participation on the basis of sex. Many in our state government have expressed concerns about recent proposed changes that would broaden the definition of “sex,” and the Trustees think it is important to voice that we share these concerns and wish to protect the interests of our female students.
Even though summer is upon us, our monthly celebrations continue as we have so much to be proud of in Keller ISD. This evening, we look forward to recognizing the Central High One-Act Play cast and crew for their second-place finish at State, as well as highlighting our State-qualifying Special Olympics athletes.
A full version of Thursday’s agenda can be found online, and those unable to attend in person can view the meeting live on Keller ISD’s YouTube channel.
Preview: Monday, May 20
The Board of Trustees will hold its next monthly Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. today, Monday, May 20, at the Keller ISD Education Center as we wrap up the school year but continue the work of advocating for the continued success of the District.
This month’s Awards and Achievements will be especially robust as we honor state and national achievements from our Athletics, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and Fine Arts departments.
Among the evening’s scheduled action items is a resolution discussing the importance of our community schools, educators, and staff. The resolution urges the Governor and Texas Legislature to increase the basic allotment (i.e., per-student funding amount set by the state) to a level necessary to address pay disparities and offset inflation. In fact, the Governor’s own Teacher Vacancy Task Force recommended raising the basic allotment as their top recommendation for addressing retention and recruitment issues (https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/health-safety-discipline/tvtf-final-report.pdf).
On May 27, Keller ISD will hold its high school graduation ceremonies at Dickies Arena for the third straight year. Trustees are excited to consider a renewed agreement with Dickies that will keep Keller ISD graduations at the venue through 2029.
The District originally chose Dickies Arena because it is the closest available venue capable of hosting all four comprehensive high school graduations in a single day. Plus, its state-of-the-art arena allows us to provide an unlimited number of guests per graduate.
Also on the agenda for this evening, Keller ISD administration will recommend to the Board principal appointments for vacancies at Eagle Ridge Elementary, North Riverside Elementary, Park Glen Elementary, and Parkwood Hill Intermediate.
The meeting will include a required public hearing on Keller ISD’s 2024-25 federal grant allotments.
Click here to view the remainder of Monday’s agenda, and anyone unable to attend in person can view the meeting live on Keller ISD’s YouTube channel. We invite you to continue to stay engaged as we work together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, April 25
The Board of Trustees will hold its monthly Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. this evening at the Keller ISD Education Center, and we invite you to stay involved as we receive important updates and take action on some critical items for student and staff safety.
We’re especially looking forward to the evening’s Award and Achievements. In addition to highlighting several impressive student and staff accomplishments, we have the honor of recognizing high school seniors who will be enlisting in the U.S. military after graduation.
District administrators are set to deliver a series of reports, including an update on KISD’s budget situation and efforts to establish a balanced budget. As we have shared, the District has been forced to find nearly $28 million in savings to achieve a balanced budget, due to the state legislature’s failure to increase the basic per-student funding allotment last year. That basic allotment of $6,160 has remained unchanged since 2019, despite more than 17% inflation and the state sitting on an unprecedented budget surplus.
Among the evening’s action items, the Board is scheduled to consider approval of the purchase of a plot of land adjacent to Basswood Elementary School, upon which a developer had planned to build an extended stay hotel. The District did not receive adequate notification before the city approved the project, and so the Board and KISD administrators have been working on legal solutions and negotiating the potential purchase of the land. The District remains committed to ensuring the safety of the students, employees, and families at Basswood Elementary.
You can click here to view the remainder of this evening’s agenda. Tonight’s meeting can also be viewed live on Keller ISD’s YouTube page. For those planning to attend in person, we want to remind you that a reception for the Keller ISD Art Show will be taking place at the same time, as it was scheduled prior to Regular Board Meetings moving to Thursdays. With both events taking place at the same time, parking will be at a premium at the KISD Education Center. No matter how you choose to view or review tonight’s meeting, we want to thank you for remaining engaged as we work together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, March 28
Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees will hold its monthly Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the KISD Education Center Boardroom (Rock Gym).
We are excited to start the meeting highlighting student and staff achievements, including the recognition of some spectacular state-level athletic achievements and our monthly staff awards. We’ll also honor our first-ever recipients of the FACE Award – a new honor highlighting outstanding achievement among our operations employees.
The Board of Trustees will go into executive session following the awards, after which we’ll present the Board President and Superintendent updates, and then hear from our community during Audience with Individuals.
There are two reports on Thursday night’s agenda, beginning with an update on student academic progress. We’re excited to learn about how well our students are reaching their learning goals and demonstrating academic growth. In our second report, we’ll hear more details about the transition of the Keller Collegiate Academy, moving from its own building to the Keller Center for Advanced Learning next year. We believe our community will be excited about the opportunities this move presents and we look forward to highlighting how much thought and care has been put into the planning process.
Thursday’s action items for the Board to consider include the adoption of new science curriculum materials. This is the culmination of a nearly yearlong process for our Curriculum and Instruction team as they’ve established criteria for these materials and narrowed down vendors, collecting significant community and staff feedback along the way.
As always, the meeting will be streamed live on Keller ISD’s YouTube Channel, and we encourage our community to continue to stay engaged as we work together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, February 29
Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees is set to hold its monthly Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 29.
We are excited to begin our meeting by celebrating a number of student and staff achievements, including our National Merit Finalists, TMEA All-State Band and Choir students, and State Champion KISD Unified Sparkle Cheer team.
We’ll hold a required hearing on Keller ISD’s Texas Academic Performance Report (or TAPR) and hear an important report regarding the District’s effort to mitigate student truancy.
Among action items for the Board to consider is the hiring of a new Principal for Keller Middle School and change orders for the Parkview and Whitley Road construction projects.
The meeting will be streamed live on Keller ISD’s YouTube Channel, and we encourage you to tune in and stay engaged as we work together as one for the success of all.
Preview: Thursday, January 25
Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees is set to hold its monthly Regular Meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 25.
We are excited to begin our meeting by celebrating a number of employee achievements, including recognizing our amazing campus cafeteria managers who work hard with their staffs to keep our students energized and ready to learn.
We have several reports on the agenda, including updates from our Special Education and Counseling departments. We also get to hear from two amazing community partners – Jarrett Armstrong with the Keller Lions Club, who will share how his organization supports our students and campuses; and Matthew Hall with Raise Your Hand Texas, who will provide an update on the latest legislative news coming out of Austin.
As has been shared, Keller ISD is facing a $27 million budget deficit due to the Texas Legislature’s failure to support public education. The state had a surplus of more than $30 billion and chose not to spend a single penny addressing inflationary costs, school safety, or special education.
District leaders have been working tirelessly to develop a plan to address this deficit and balance the budget so that Keller ISD remains a destination of excellence.
On Thursday, administrators will be sharing the results of that work, which is guided by our commitment to:
- Ensuring Excellent Opportunities for Student Academic Success
- Providing and Maintaining Student Programming
- Supporting KISD’s Amazing Educators
- Ensuring the Safety and Security of KISD Campuses for All KISD Students
- Protecting the Interests of Taxpayers by Passing a Balanced Budget
- Using this Historic Budget Crisis as an Opportunity for Innovation
The meeting will also see the Board take action on:
- an employment recommendation for Timber Creek High School’s next principal,
- agreements with several universities to provide students opportunities to earn college credit, real-world work experience, and industry certifications, and
- an agreement with the Texas Commission to provide critical training for our Security Operations Staff.
The meeting will be streamed live on Keller ISD’s YouTube Channel, and we encourage you to tune in and stay engaged as we work together as one for the success of all.
