Campus Consolidation

Keller ISD is committed to planning responsibly for the future of our schools.

Shifts in enrollment and ongoing funding challenges require a thoughtful look at how we use our resources to best serve students – both now and in the years ahead. As part of this work, the district convened a group of more than 120 stakeholders – parents, employees, community leaders – representing every corner of KISD. These members of the district's Long-Range Planning Committee and Citizens Bond Advisory Committee met together from January to April 2026 to review enrollment trends, facility use, and financial considerations as part of a broader discussion about the future organization of our schools, including the possibility of campus consolidation.

These groups prioritized criteria for district leadership to consider when exploring campus consolidation. Leadership used that feedback to develop a proposal to close four schools – Bear Creek Intermediate, Parkwood Hill Intermediate, Trinity Meadows Intermediate, and Shady Grove Elementary. The closure of the intermediate schools will allow KISD to align grade-levels district-wide, a top priority for the committees, with elementary schools serving PreK-5 grades, middle schools serving 6-8 grades, and high schools continuing to serve 9-12 grades. Shady Grove was identified for closure due to the committees' priorities to address campus occupancy and the cost of brining facilities to standards. Neighboring campuses have the capacity to welcome students from the SGES attendance zone and the cost of addressing Shady Grove's capital needs is estimated to be $5.9 million more than those nearby schools.

None of these changes would take place until after the 2026-27 school year, and the proposal will not be final until approved by the board of trustees. While these changes are challenging, Keller ISD believes that proactive planning today will help ensure a stable, high-quality educational experience for every student tomorrow.
