District of Innovation
In 2016, District administrators assembled a committee composed of teachers, parents, local business and community members, and representatives from local civic organizations and educational institutions to develop Keller ISD's Local Innovation Plan. KISD's Board of Trustees approved this original plan in February 2017, and adopted amendments to the plan in February 2018.
Districts of Innovation must renew their DOI designation every five years, and in October 2021, Keller ISD reconvened its committee to explore continuing with the current exemptions or making any changes or additions. This proposed renewal plan was posted for consideration in November 2021, and was approved by the KISD Board of Trustees on December 13, 2021.

Local Innnovation Plan Amendments adopted February 2018
In October 2025, Keller ISD's Board of Trustees approved a new DOI Committee to explore renewal of the district's Innovation Plan ahead of its December 2026 expiration. The committee met three times in the spring of 2026 before approving a proposed renewal that removes all exemptions no longer allowable under the law and extends all other existing exemptions. That proposed plan is linked below and must be posted on the website for 30 days prior to consideration by the Board of Trustees.
