Indoor Extra-Curricular Program Facilities

Indoor extra-curricular practice buildings are being constructed at each of Keller ISD's four comprehensive high schools. The spaces would each include a 100-yard turf field and be able to support all outdoor extra-curricular program practice needs.

April 2023 Update

Fossil Ridge HS

Keller ISD will officially open the second of its four indoor extracurricular facilities on Thursday, May 18, at Fossil Ridge High School with a community-wide ceremony and ribbon cutting. Student performers and student athletes have already begun to take advantage of the space for practices and rehearsals during inclement weather.

March 2023 Update

Keller ISD officially opened the first of its four indoor extracurricular facilities on Friday, March 10, at Central High School with a community-wide ceremony and ribbon cutting. Student performers and student athletes have already begun to take advantage of the space for practices and rehearsals during inclement weather.

Work is also moving along on facilities at both Timber Creek and Keller High, with those projects expected to be completed in the summer of 2023.

March 2022 Update

Central HS: The full building permit for this project has been issued by the City of Fort Worth, and the contractor began construction on the Central High School project in October of 2021. The building foundation has been completed and the steel structure has been erected. The contractor is now installing the roof rafters, netting, and the deck system for the roof of the building. The contractor has also installed the utilities to the building and has also completed the electrical conduit and plumbing rough-in for the new building.

Fossil Ridge HS: The full building permit for this project has been issued by the City of Fort Worth and the contractor began construction on the Fossil Ridge High School project in February 2022. The earthwork contractor has mobilized on the site and has lime-stabilized the building pad. The concrete subcontractor for the project has also received the rebar cages for the piers of the foundation and has begun drilling and pouring the structural piers for the foundation. The structural steel building material for the Fossil Ridge High School project has also begun being delivered.

Keller HS: The proposed location of the Keller High School extra-curricular building required the tennis courts to be relocated on the north side of Johnson Road. The tennis courts project was bid in May 2021 and was reviewed and awarded to Goldsmith Construction at the May 24, 2021, Board of Trustees Meeting. A new parking lot was also included in the tennis courts relocation project. The KHS tennis court relocation project was also bid with the Keller Middle School tennis courts re-surfacing project. Demolition of the existing tennis courts began in January 2022, and the City of Keller released the building permit in March and the pre-construction meeting was held with city staff and project team on March 7. As part of the plan review and permitting process, the City of Keller Fire Department is requiring modifications be made on the fire lane configuration around the building. Those changes are currently being priced by the contractor for review and approval by the District. Those changes also require the building location to be adjusted and the new building location will require the electrical service lines that run to the existing District stadium transformer to be adjusted. This change is also being priced by the electrical supplier and will be submitted to the District for approval in the coming weeks. The structural steel for the building has begun being delivered to the project site.

Timber Creek HS: This project is behind schedule because of the proposed location of the building. There is conflict with the geothermal mechanical wellfields that are located in the practice field in which the new building is scheduled to be built. The geothermal mechanical field provides seasonal heating and cooling to the main high school building. Initial grading of the property identified that the depth of the wellfield was shallower than initially anticipated and required adjustments to the layout of the building on the property. Additional changes are being proposed for this particular project, and additional mechanical equipment will be required to complete this project. The architect and engineering consultants have been working on the proposed changes over the last several months, and the contractor is in the process of pricing those changes.
