Parents' Guide to School Attendance
Attendance is one of the most important factors in students' academic success. According to state law and board policy, a student is required to be in attendance at least 90% of the dates classes are offered. If a student violates this rule they may be at risk for being denied credit for the course. More than 9 absences in 1 st or 5 th period; or more than 4 absences in 2nd-4 th period will result in credit denial (per semester).
Students who exceed the compulsory attendance law for absences will be referred to the campus attendance committee for review and may be subject to possible consequences, including loss of credit or court.
There are two types of absences:
- Recognized (these absences do not count toward the 90% Rule): this includes documented medical appointments, documented required court appearances, school-related activities, nationally recognized religious holidays, and documented college visits (2 days per school year for 11th & 1 2th graders only).
- Non-recognized (these absences do count toward the 90% rule): all other absences.
What to do if your child is absent
- Call or email the attendance office directly at:

- Documentation regarding absences must be turned in to the attendance office or faxed to (817)744-2337 within 5 business days.
We are not an open campus for lunch. Students cannot be dismissed during their lunch hour unless a parent is present. FYI- Students are not allowed to have lunch delivered to campus.
Calling ahead to dismiss your student will result in a quicker dismissal. Dismissals after 3:30 must be arranged in advance so that we have time to locate your student.
Students leaving campus without approval and a pass from the attendance office will be recorded as truant and subject to disciplinary action.
VOE (verification of enrollment) forms are requested on the TCHS website (students and families/attendance/VOE...) and require 24 hours to prepare.
Check the school calendar for State testing dates. There will be no dismissals on these dates, so please plan appointments accordingly.
Due to the high volume of calls it may be necessary for you to leave a message. Please leave your student's name, reason for call, dismissal time if needed, and a callback name/number. Failure to leave a message during peak times may result in a delay of your child's dismissal.
Attendance detail is available on Home Access, all errors should be discussed between the student and teacher for possible correction.
Attendance on Home Access:
Attendance Page- hover a mouse over the colored box and the period and attendance code will pop up
Home Page- look at the week view and the grid will show the classes (on left) and days of week (on top). The intersecting box will have the attendance code associated with it. There is a hot link for the teachers email on the left.
Students need to visit with their teacher if they believe they were marked incorrectly. The teacher will then instruct attendance to make any changes. Parents should follow up by reviewing Home Access a few days later to be sure the change has been made. If it has not, the parent may want to foiiow up with the teacher to see if there are extenuating circumstances.
Seat time/ Credit denial:
By state law, students may not have more than 9 absences in 1st or 5th period/ or more than 4 absences in 2A, 28, 3A, 38, 4A or 48 (per semester). Credit denial will be determined at the completion of the semester.
Credit will be denied for excessive absences and will not be restored until seat time has been completed. Seat time can be earned by:
Saturday School (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon) - Saturday school begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Please arrive by 7:55 a.m. at the front of the school. You may leave when you wish but credit will only be restored for time served.
Falcon Night School or FNS (4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.) - FNS begins promptly at 4:00 p.m. in room M106. FNS will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. You may leave when you wish but credit will only be restored for time served.

- Students must then sign in with their school ID & password (not HAC)
