Keller ISD's Child Nutrition Services Department is always in the kitchen cooking up something new for district students.
Fresh off the successful 2nd Annual Kids Can Cook Contest, Child Nutrition Services (CNS) has several exciting things coming up for the last month or so of the 2009-10 school year.
This week, campus cafeterias are offering special Earth Day menus with vegetarian options in in honor of Thursday, April 22 holiday. On that day, elementary and intermediate cafeteria diners can look for a few special dishes including Tuna Salad with a Warm Pita and Chicken Veiggie Stir Fry.
At the middle and high school campuses, diners will have Earth Day specials all week including the Tuna Salad with Warm Pita and and Chicken Veggie Stir Fry, in addition to a Grilled Eggplant Panini with Pesto Spread and Loaded Pesto Vegetable Pizza. Those options will be available April 19-23 to the district's 7-12 graders.
In an effort to keep parents and students aware of healthier meal options, CNS will also begin indicating vegetarian and low-fat/low-calorie items on monthly lunch menus.
Vegetarian meal choices will simply be denoted with (V), while an image of Lift Off
the Sodexo mascot will denote an item of less than 30% of calories from fat or 10 grams or less of total fat per serving. The new feature will begin with May's menus.
