Keller High begins search for new Head Football Coach

Keller ISD has begun the process of hiring a new head football coach at Keller High School after Coach Kevin Atkinson was approved Tuesday night to take over the same duties at Denton High School.

Atkinson, who was 50-55 in his 10 years heading the Indians’ program, announced his decision to KHS coaches and players Tuesday.

KISD and Keller High administrators will begin the hiring process immediately by meeting with players and parents to create a profile for the next coach. A parent meeting has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 6 in the KHS Fine Arts Center.

The process is expected to take 4-5 weeks, after which the recommendation will brought before the KISD Board of Trustees for final approval. Assistant Coach Matt Webb will take over the offseason program in the meantime, as Atkinson is expected to take over his duties at Denton High within the next week.

Denton ISD approved the appointment of Atkinson to the head football coach and athletic coordinator position at Denton High during a special meeting Tuesday evening, January 31.
