Why is Keller ISD not more up front about its finances?
Keller ISD always strives for transparency when dealing with district finances.
All financial documents, from the complete budget, to investment information, to what checks the district writes from month to month can be found on KellerISD.net.
Keller ISD’s financial information can be accessed with just a single click from KellerISD.net’s home page. Users can hover over the “District” tab at the top of the page, and click on “Finance”. (Also, clicking “District” will take you to the tab’s landing page, and “Finance” can be accessed on the left-hand menu.)
KISD has greatly promoted the 5-Star Rating it received from the Texas State Comptroller’s office – the only district in Tarrant County to the highest rating and one of only 43 in the state. However, the State Comptroller has also awarded KISD its highest honor in financial transparency, a Gold Leadership Circle as a district “setting the bar for financial transparency.”
Municipal finances, and public education finances in particular, can be very complex and confusing, but Keller ISD understands that current budget issues have led to greater interest in the topic. Because of that, the District has produced an additional Web presence on the front page of KellerISD.net entitled “Whatever It Takes: How to Keep Keller ISD Exceptional.” This site features financial information specific to the current budget process and the issues surrounding that. Special documents have been posted there to detail specifics about KISD’s budget and its adoption process, and videos have been produced to simplify the information as best possible and focus on common questions and concerns.
“From the Source” is one tool for answering broad or commonly asked questions. Any specific or personal questions, and any suggestions on how Keller ISD can be more transparent can always be emailed to Feedback@kellerisd.net where they will be addressed as promptly as possible.
